The Sociedad Estatal de Conmemoraciones Culturales (SECC), an agency of the Ministry of Culture, and the government of Castilla La Mancha, through the Empresa Pública Don Quijote, honored Miguel Prieto (Almodóvar del Campo, Ciudad Real, 1907 - Mexico City, 1956) on the 100th anniversary of his birth. This exhibition had already been in the Antiguo Convento de la Merced, Ciudad Real, and the Museo de Santa Cruz, Toledo. The exhibition's title refers to a verse from a poem by Pablo Neruda, who worked and maintained a close friendship with Prieto. Neruda dedicated the poem to Prieto on Christmas, 1940, which is shown for the first time in this exhibit.
This is the first exhibition held in Spain on Prieto. It focused on his many activities as an artist and activist. His paintings were shown with those by Picasso, Miró, Alberto Sánchez, and Renau at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, 1937. He was also a typographer, illustrator, and costume and stage designer. It aims to recover his historical significance in Spain, where he is practically unknown. However, he was a key figure in the arts scene in the 20th century. Prieto, a social and political activist, is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating figures of the Silver Age in Spain.
