The exhibition included a wide selection of drawings, oil paintings and gouaches by Gabriel Celaya, signed as Rafael (his first name), during the years he stayed at the Residencia de Estudiantes (1927 -1935). During those years he met poets, painters, and musicians and attended the Residencia cultural events, such as lectures by Madame Curie, H. G. Wells, John M. Keynes, Filippo Marinetti; concerts by Maurice Ravel, Ernesto Halffter, and "La Argentinita", accompanied by Federico García Lorca; and Luis Buñuel's projections of surrealist films. It was then when the young Múgica (his first surname) developed his two passions —painting and poetry. Fully immersed in the avant-garde movement, Celaya was influenced by other artists, as shown in the documents, letters, photographs, and some of the books that Celaya collected during his years as a student.
