The exhibition commemorated the 100th anniversary of Severo Ochoa's birth. The Nobel Prize winning scientist made decisive contributions to science in Spain, especially in biochemistry and molecular biology research, and through his teachings and his commitment to culture.
 
It was divided into three sections. The first dealt with his formative years in the Laboratory of Physiology, established by the Junta para Ampliación de Estudios e Investigaciones Científicas at the Residencia de Estudiantes and headed by Juan Negrín, and in European laboratories (Berlin, London and Oxford), where he conducted research thanks to grants provided by the Junta. The second section focused on the Nobel Prize. The third one, dedicated to his scientific and institutional legacy, followed his work in the United States, where he trained Spanish scientists and promoted the development of biochemistry and molecular biology in Spain. Thanks to his efforts, the Sociedad Española de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular was established in 1963. The Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CSIC/UAM) was founded in 1971 and is one of the top research institutions in Spain today.
