The exhibition, part of the commemorative events marking the 100th anniversary of Rafael Alberti's birth, focused on his fruitful relationship with avant-garde writers of his generation, such as Pedro Salinas, Federico García Lorca, José Bergamin, Dámaso Alonso, Jorge Guillén, Gerardo Diego, Luis Cernuda and Vicente Aleixandre. It also dealt with his relationship with writers of previous generations, such as Azorín, and his personal dialogue with artists Maruja Mallo, Benjamín Palencia and Alberto Sánchez, whose works occupied a central place in the exhibition.
The chronological structure was based on original documents: correspondence, writings, manuscripts, first editions, some autographed, with drawings by the poet, and reviews of his work. The selected artwork showed how traditional imagery and the new aesthetics had influenced Alberti's creative process.
The exhibition reconstructed and illustrated the creative and writing process that went into Sobre los ángeles. It also explained the range of elements in this work, which is the aesthetic expression of Alberti's internal crisis during those years. It also showed the impact of the book in the literary milieu of the time, with newspaper articles and reviews, and Pedro Salinas' lecture read in the book's presentation at the Residencia de Estudiantes.
