The exhibition makes an important reference to the more than twenty names from Valladolid that are among the residents, distinguished protagonists of the history of la Residencia de Estudiantes, like Jorge Guillén, Pío del Río-Hortega, Marcelino Pascua, Galo Sánchez, José María de Corral or José and Emilio Gómez Orbaneja. Another noted resident is Ricardo de Orueta, who became the promoter, as General Director of Fine Arts, of the Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid. The also resident José Antonio Rubio Sacristán, friend of Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí was, during many years, professor at the University of Valladolid and one of the boosters of El Norte de Castilla.
Regarding the cultural activity in Valladolid during the first third of the 20th century, there are also names as essential as those of the three Cossío brothers, Francisco, Mariano and José María; Cristóbal Halffter, whose stay provoked a wake-up call in the city; the painters Sinforiano del Toro and Ángeles Santos, who, even if she was born in Portbou (Gerona), lived the pictorial environments of the city where she began to become known. Rosa Chacel was born in Valladolid, although she soon moved with her family to Madrid.
In the pages of El Norte de Castilla and avant-garde journals like Meseta (1928-1929), Ddooss (1931) y A la Nueva Ventura (1934), run by Francisco Pino and José María Luelmo (together with Francisco Martín and Gómez in the case of Meseta), one can find the signatures of some of the main names of the new generation.
