This exhibition was organized by the Caja General de Ahorros of Granada, in collaboration with the Residencia de Estudiantes, the Federico García Lorca Fundation and the Instituto Cervantes to celebrate the publication of Manhattan... cita con Federico García Lorca. The lavish book, published by Lunwerg Editores, features the latest revised version of Lorca's Poeta en Nueva York with photographs by Robés.

 

The exhibition presented 60 black and white photographs showing the daily life in Manhattan through images of anonymous characters, buildings, streets and urban landscapes. The result of the relationship between Lorca's poems and these wonderful photographs is made clear in the introduction to the book:

 

"New York, the American city that the Andalusian poet confronted, remains the supreme icon of modernity, with all its raw, biting and terrible beauty of yesterday and today, with its historic skyscrapers already in existence in 1930, or those which have ceased to exist before our terrified eyes. The editor and the courageous work of a contemporary photographer, Robés, connected old lyrics, which to continue to be modern, with a city that is also old and new, a powerful place that inspired the words of the poet to flow with all his sustained intensity to bring 'sangre, olas, labios o cielo a la frente del que oye', as Lorca wrote in his lecture on Poeta en Nueva York."
