This exhibition displayed paintings by José Luis Pastor, a fellow with a grant from the Madrid City Council at the Residencia de Estudiantes during the 1999- 2001 academic years. The Residencia is committed to promoting these grants and provides space to show its fellows' work. Pastor uses urban reality as a reference, resorting to an almost monochrome realism to represent the city. His unique way of framing images reveals his connections to photography, architecture and even film. Pastor acknowledges the influence of artists and intellectuals such as Gerhard Richter, Edward Ruscha and Walter Benjamin on his work.
